MEMORANDUM

October 7, 2004

TO: Radiation Oncology Training Directors
FR: Lawrence W. Davis, M.D.
Associate Executive Director

RE: Change in Rules for Conditioning Written Radiation Oncology Exam

Beginning in July 2005, a candidate passing one or two of the three written exams will be considered having conditioned the exam and will need to repeat only the exam(s) they did not pass. (Previously a candidate was required to pass two of the three exams to be considered as conditioning the exam.) As a result of this change in the rules, a candidate choosing to take only the biology and physics exams when they are eligible will not be required to pass both to be successful in either. That is, if a candidate passes either the physics or biology exam but not both, they will be credited with passing the one exam and failing the other.

The time constraint rules for passing all conditioned exams is not changed and candidates will still have three opportunities to pass all of those conditioned.
